Hi Angela, sorry for the late reply.

I would recommend 4 batches of my recipe which is 125g of copha or butter and 1 1/2 cups of icing sugar. I'm not sure what the final amount works out to.

For the blocks, cover them as if you're covering a pyramid shaped cake, with the point facing you, then cut along the back edges.

Honestly I'm not sure, that's just the advice I've been given. You may be able to find a denser packet mix, or maybe you could add a bit more flour. You'd need to experiment. But I encourage you to give it a go. Making the cakes from scratch isn't any more difficult than using a box.

Lucky it was the trial. The break in the support is to hold up the disk that supports the weight of the head, very important. With the wire running through it should be plenty strong enough. Perhaps your inner wire wasn't long enough?

My husband is making the stand for me, and this is his question. Why would you cut or put two different dowells in, instead of using one Dowell all the way through the cake. It seems like it would keep the support running through and wouldn't have that break in support. Because the trial run for my wife's first Elmo cake attempt, the head basically came off right where the second Dowell started. It was kind of funny but she was almost in tears because she worked so hard and I know if it's the next one right before his birthday on the 28 she would of been really in tears. Thanks Adam

Sorry but I had one other question well actually two. I still don't get how you made the second part of your blocks, I got how you put the white on the blocks but not how you covered the three sides with no creases showing. My second question is since I am not much of a baker and am making these cakes with box cake from the store, and I saw your comment about box cake not being dense enough, is there away to make a cake more dense. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

I was wondering how much icing you actually made for Elmo only because I am buying the cream cheese icing from the store and coloring it red. I am also crumb coating it with store bought chocolate fudge icing with a little red Wilkin also. This is saving me a little time. Each container of icing contains 16 US oz. or 453 grams, I just didn't know how that compared to the amount you made. We did a test run and figured out how much color we needed to change it to Elmo red but want for sure if it would be enough icing to cover him. Thanks Angela

Hi! I was wondering if you would share what recipe you use for fondant? Currently I use one that is basically marshmallows and confectionary sugar, but I find it cracks easily. Your fondant looks nice and smooth!! :)

Hi Jonny,

First of all, your cake is amazing. The instructions are wonderful. I am grateful that you provided them. It's very generous of you.

I will be following your instructions to make the cake for my nephew's first birthday. One question I have (so far) is, how tall are the cake pans you used? I found 8x2 and 8x3, but only 6x2. Please let me know. Two inches seems to be a bit small to cut one cake into thirds.

I look forward to hearing from you.
